Equivocal

‘Equivocal’ is a series of video recordings of unmutual conversations in two languages. In front of a camera, two people have a conversation in two different languages. One person speaks in a language that the other person cannot understand. And also the other person speaks in a language that the person cannot understand. The conversation is translated in English later.

This project emphasises human-to-human interaction. It is intended to explore the possibility of interaction outside of words, seeking a connection and understanding between people who have different linguistic and cultural backgrounds from different places. Also, it is designed to have a certain therapeutic aspect while articulating one’s feelings and thoughts in a setting that is free from immediate judgment from the opposite. Additionally, it is expected to detect some ways of interaction when we try to understand each other, while not having clues to comprehend verbal communication.
